The Creel-Inn-Canvas # 1 PDF Print E-mail

November 2003 - January 2004 - Eolanda Fanchon Norrie

Catterline, an inspiration and subject for artists over decades is back in the frame.

This summer, the Catterline Arts Festival, sponsored by the Kincardine and Deeside Arts Forum, KDAF, attracted hundreds of visitors. The village became a gallery, displaying the works of Joan Eardley, Lil Neilson, Annette Stephens and various contemporary artists in the dramatic setting of the cliff top cottages, rural houses, church and restaurant, The Creel Inn. The Arts Festival, buoyed by its success this year is now to become a bi-annual event.

To continue the momentum, the Creel Inn, which currently has stewardship of Joan Eardley's, Fishing Nets, is now giving its walls to exhibit the work of contemporary artists, and will take no commission. Rather, the owner of the Creel, Robert Lindsay is keen to foster the spirit of the artists' village by lending the Creel as a venue.

The Creel-Inn-Canvas will start in late November, running through to New Year, with an exhibition by Gourdon based artist Eolanda Fanchon Norrie. Eolanda's theme for the exhibition is the weather blown faces of characters of fisher and farming folk, and other inspirational expressions found in old photographs. Sepia tones are prevalent in her works, in the media of acrylics, gouache and oils.

Born in 1965 in Glasgow, Eolanda graduated from Aberdeen College of Commerce with a Diploma in Art and Design. She further developed her technical skills while assisting the art department at Hazelhead Academy. In 1996 she embarked on a commercial career, since which she has exhibited at local exhibitions, from which she has accepted various commissions. Her style has been influenced by the Scottish Colourists, Impressionists and Jack Vetrianno. In 2003, Eolanda received a Personal Development Grant from KDAF, which is helping to develop her technique in figurative drawing and support her future projects.

Artists wishing to exhibit their work at the Creel are encouraged to contact Robert Lindsay (tel. 01569 750254)
