February 2004 - April 2004 - Marga Schnell & Gwen Black
The Creel Inn at Catterline is opening its doors once again encouraging
local artists to exhibit in the coastal village that was once the home to Joan
Eardley and, Lil Neilson and Annette Stephen.
The owner of the Creel, Robert Lindsay is keen to foster the spirit
of the artists' village by lending the Creel as a venue and will take no commission.
Robert hopes to foster fresh local artists reflecting The Creel Inn's Caledonian
cuisine.
The Creel-Inn-Canvas #2, exhibition will show the work of two
mature student at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen, Marga Schnell and Gwen Black.
Both artists are in their third year of study in Fine Art.
Marga Marga has experienced art and creativity through
working for forty years with children and young people with special needs in
the environment of Camphill R.St.Schools.
" Being and educator as well as specialising in art therapy has
given me and inside experience of art as visual appreciation as well as a healing
factor in our time"
" At the moment, my studio work is involved with exploring the
coast. I like to examine it's variety, it's usefulness, it's drama , it's tranquillity
and also the impact man has made on the coast."
Gwen Gwen has been exhibiting her work extensively
in the North East of Scotland over the past four years. Venues include The Lemon
Tree, Peacock Visual Arts, The Bridge, Conoco UK Ltd. Grampian Hospital Arts
Trust and Milton Gallery.
Her current work is predominantly abstract, focusing on the deconstruction
of everyday objects.
'I am fascinated by fragmentalism, that is the breaking down of
objects into a form of mosaic shapes. I get inspiration mainly from the natural
decay and deconstruction of man made forms. From the crazing and eruptions on
broken cement paving or tarred road surfaces, the patterning in stone walls
and dilapidated renderings, the flaking and peeling of paint work on old doors
and windows, to the natural wear and tear of household objects and clothing,
broken and cracked china, frayed and faded clothing.'
The exhibition runs from February 2004 to April 2004.
Artists wishing to exhibit their work at the Creel are encouraged
to contact Robert Lindsay (tel. 01569 750254, www.thecreelinn.co.uk).
